From the brains behind ‘food as medicine’ delivery service, Foodhak, Jugad is serving up Indian dishes with a healthy modern twist
Healthy food delivery service Foodhak, is opening its first restaurant in the heart of bustling Camden this September. Jugad will bring its ‘food as medicine’ concept to a bright and airy dining space, serving a modern Indian menu that is equal parts delicious and nutritious.
Bringing healthier dining out options to the London, the 92-cover restaurant, with 45-cover alfresco terrace, is perfect for those looking for a lunch spot or for those seeking an evening out that doesn’t compromise their healthy eating goals. The diverse menu is designed to cater to various palates and dietary preferences, being totally gluten and dairy free, ensuring a delightful dining experience for all.
The modern Indian menu designed by Jugad’s Executive Chef Jose Fernandes, who spent the last five years heading up the kitchen at the acclaimed Gunpowder Restaurant, will draw inspiration from cultures around the world. Expect to discover exciting small plates such as Crab Meat Quail Scotch Egg with tomato chutney, Bombay-Style Mini Vada Pao with dry garlic chutney and mint sauce, and Pomegranate Chicken Wings with mustard dip.
Impressive larger plates, include Pan-Fried Sea Bass with mole sauce and beetroot poriyal, Delhi-style Butter Chicken and Beef with Pepper Skewers and pineapple salad. A delightful, yet light Sweet Potato Brownie with ayurvedic ice cream features on the dessert menu, alongside Alle Belle – a coconut, jaggery (cane sugar) pancake with saffron custard.
Olly Lambert (ex-Bar Manager at Soho hotspot Soma), will be behind the bar as Jugad’s Head Mixologist, serving up a range of premium sprits, craft beers, wines and champagne, alongside signature cocktails.
The spacious restaurant will feature long, sharing wooden tables with stylish black block seating, lit with sophisticated pendant lighting, reeded film glass windows and exposed brick walls. The space will have a soft natural colour palate of beiges and greens, with velvet cushions, large abstract art pieces and soft furnishings providing pops of brighter colours throughout. The feature bar will boast a black slatted bar front with a mirrored shelved back, and eye-catching brass pendants to light the space, perfect for perching on the high stools, or reclining on a low table in an armchair for a cocktail pre or post dining.
Jugad, derived from the Hindi word meaning “innovative or irregular way of repairing,” embodies founder Sakshi Chhabra Mittal‘s belief in the possibility of eating without mass production, in a sustainable way, and as naturally as possible. The menu is entirely free from dairy, gluten, and refined sugars, ensuring that everyone can explore a world of flavours without restrictions.
‘I faced the challenge of balancing a healthy diet with my love for dining out, which inspired the creation of Jugad by Foodhak. The restaurant celebrates my Indian heritage with a modern twist. It is in an eclectic part of London, rich in history and known for its unconventional spirit—perfectly embodying what Jugad stands for. It’s a place where traditional Indian cuisine meets contemporary culinary techniques, offering an indulgent dining experience that is both healthy and delicious.‘, says Sakshi.
