• The UK consumes a whopping 6.8m patties a day, at an average of 37 annually per person
  • Brits named a barbeque (51%) as their favoured place to eat one although 676,000 (1%) confessed to chowing down whilst on the loo
  • The best way to cook a burger is well-done, in a brioche bun with cheddar cheese and more
  • A third of the country believes burgers are indeed sandwiches

As Britain gets set to celebrate National Burger Day on 22nd August, new research reveals that the country chows down on a colossal 2,501,200,000 burgers1 every single year.

The study, by Paddy Power Games, quizzed the nation about their love for burgers, how often they eat one and where they consume them, with a typical person scoffing 37 burgers in a 12-month span.

In total, the figure equates to almost 7 million succulent patties (6.8m) every day – with a typical man revealing that they eat more per year (44) than their female counterparts (31). Generationally 25-34’s eat the most (55 annually), over double that of the over 55’s who eat the least at just 21.

For foodies who love a juicy burger or two, barbeques with family and friends are the top location to feast according to 51% of people. Following closely behind are fast-food restaurants (50%) or in the comfort of their own homes (49%).

But Britain’s favoured locations do not come without controversy, as over 2 million (3%) UK residents have seemingly created the newest, and most bizarre, fitness trend by scoffing one at the gym. Other strange locations include, a hot tub and swimming pool (2% respectively), or whilst soaking in the bathtub and using the toilet (1% each).

Astonishingly, a third (33%) argued that, yes, burgers are a sandwich, when pressed on the longstanding debate.

Paddy Power Games spokesperson, Paddy Power, said: “Great Britain knows a thing, or two about good burgers given they make up a huge part of what we eat. Whether it is on the go, chilling with friends or enjoying some comfort food, there are so many ways to get creative with your meal this National Burger Day…

“And despite the majority of the 2.5 billion Burgers being eaten by Brits in what can only be described as a normal fashion, unfortunately for the 1% who bizarrely admit to eating theirs on the toilet, we think that sounds like a pretty cr*p way to celebrate the occasion.”
