CAFE MONDO: A Luncheonette & Bar Coming to SE London!
Mondo Sando is excited to announce the opening of their first site – CAFE MONDO! A fast-slingin sandwich joint by day, and a magic little dive with unserious & always affordable drinks, snacks & plates by night. Keeping things local, CAFE MONDO will be opening up in Camberwell for Autumn 2024.
To help build a sandwich clubhouse of dreams, Mondo Sando is launching a Kickstarter campaign to raise essential funds for the build, kitchen essentials and start-up costs. The Kickstarter is launching on 20th September, with rewards such as dinner for two, sarnie amulets and face painting on offer. They’re raisin’ the dough to make sandwich dreams come true!
CAFE MONDO is inspired by the nostalgic charm of everyone’s favourite casual dining spots, from caffs and diners, to luncheonettes, dive bars, brown cafes, restaurants and beyond. In the daytime, the Mondo boys will be slinging their cult sarnies – Mondo Frango, BLT and Fish Finger Sandwiches. At night, they’ll be dishing out a short, changing menu of bar snacks and small plates that will draw on deli classics. Think, Chicken Schnitzel; Patty Melt; Aubergine Fritti and Deep Fried Treacle Tart. It has the perfect setup for takeouts, a sunny front porch for lunch, a big secret garden for summer evenings, and a shotgun bar to pour away your troubles.
Following the success of running pub residencies, co-founders Jack Macrae and Viggo Blegvad are buzzing to establish a permanent presence on Peckham Road. “We’ve spent a long (LONG) time looking for a shop that fits the bill. South East London has always been our home, it’s where our regulars live, and where we first started out. We’ve always wanted to run a place where you can grab an amazing sarnie for lunch, make some bad decisions when the sun goes down, and do everything in between on the weekends. CAFE MONDO is our love letter to all the great spots you’ve stumbled upon, in all the best stories you’ve told.”
Mondo Sando at the Grove House Tavern isn’t going anywhere. The kitchen will be in the hands of Mondo Sando’s fantastic team while they take this next step and open their own sarnie spot.
