Straits Kitchen, the acclaimed flagship restaurant at Pan Pacific London, conveniently located near Liverpool Street station, unveils an exciting new à la carte menu from the hotel’s recently appointed Executive Chef, Adam Bateman. Diners can look forward to a bold and adventurous fusion of Southeast Asia flavours with impeccably sourced British ingredients.
Recipes are rooted in tradition, but the execution is modern using western cooking techniques to create elevated plates that are as elegant as they are delicious. The menu is divided into Small & Raw; Dumplings & Skewers; Larger Plates; and Vegetable, Rice & Noodles whilst the “Experience Menu”, designed to be shared by the table, allows guests to indulge in chef’s signature dishes.
Standout fusion dishes showcasing the best of east and west include a vibrant Scottish Salmon with sweet miso, wasabi and green peas; a rich, melt-in-the-mouth Hereford Beef Short Rib with miso polenta, horseradish and sweet soy; a classic dish of North Atlantic cod reimagined with a spicy rich curried Laksa; and the must-try Jimmy Butler’s free-range pork meatballs in a rich Rendang sauce.
A true highlight of the menu is the sharing dry-aged Gressingham duck, a centrepiece dish prepared using Western cooking techniques and served the traditional Asian way with Peking style pancakes. To finish, the Melaka Crème Brûlée, paired with mango lime compote and mango coriander sorbet bridges the gap between the traditional and modern.
The wine list is equally impressive with a carefully created list of wines chosen to complement from the food, from European and New World to exciting Chinese varietals rarely seen in London. For those more inclined towards cocktails, the bar offers creative Asian-inspired concoctions alongside an exciting array of non-alcoholic options.
Straits Kitchen can be found on Pan Pacific London’s first floor, accessible via a striking spiral staircase (as well as via lift). Floor-to-ceiling windows offer views of the bustling City below whilst inside the design by renowned duo Yabu Pushelberg is bold with tropical Asian touches for an elegant dining experience.
